Joshua Belka, At-Large Seat B

I was born in Ogden in 1972. I attended Ogden High and WSU on scholarship. I am a husband, father, musician, stagehand and actively concerned voter/citizen.

I have no political experience other than staying informed and voting. I’ve decided to step that up a notch.

WHAT DO I BELIEVE IN?

  • Grass Roots democracy. Increased public participation at every level of government and assurance that our public representatives are fully accountable to the people who elect them. LET THE PEOPLE VOTE, AND LET THEM VOTE OFTEN.

  • A successful economic system that will offer meaningful work with dignity, while paying a "living wage" which reflects the real value of a person's work.

  • A pay increase for all city/state employees making less than 50,000 offset by a pay decrease or freeze for the elite minority who are raking it in.

  • The importance of Ogden’s cultural, ethnic, sexual and spiritual diversity.

  • The importance of offsetting the drive for short-term profits by assuring that economic development, new technologies, and fiscal policies are responsible to future generations who will inherit the results of our actions.

  • Independently owned and operated companies whom are socially responsible.

  • Amy Wicks, Jessie Garcia, D.S. Andersen, John Thompson and YOU.
WHAT I STAND AGAINST
  • Private financing of campaigns. All funding should be public.

  • Centralization of wealth and power that contributes to social and economic injustice.

  • Gondolas that don’t meet public transportation needs.

  • Racism, class oppression, sexism and heterosexism.

  • Corporate welfare.

  • Eminent domain.

  • WALMART.
