Thiokol Corporation, Brigham City, Utah - 1981 to 1994
Manager/Engineer, Advance Decoy Projects (1991-1994)
Originated innovative mechanical design concepts for various flare decoy devices for the protection of military aircraft. Managed engineering resources in the development of prototype decoys for performance evaluations by the military. Provided technical input for bid and proposal preparation for decoy projects.

  • Responsible for mechanical design and co-holder of a Patent for a unique form of protective decoy.
  • Member of a team responsible for the development of an advanced infrared decoy device which resulted in the Franklin Award for the Thiokol Strategic Division.
Project/Design Engineer (1981-1990)
Principal designer for the ordnance systems on the small ICBM and Peacekeeper missiles. Designed and developed safety-critical destruct systems for missile flight-testing requiring very high reliability standards in design and manufacturing. Responsible for planning and conducting extensive design qualification test programs for several multi-million dollar missile ordnance programs, including Small ICBM and Peacekeeper.
  • Designed flight termination (destruct) systems for small ICBM flight testing. System was utilized for termination of the first test flight due to a missile malfunction during the Stage II Burn. System functioned as designed.
  • Co-holder of the patent and designer of a water intervention system (WIMS) for use on the Trident (D-5) submarine launched missile. The system involved a unique application of a high-volume gas generator and gas bag to eliminate water from the nozzle during underwater launch.
Snowbasin Resort, Huntsville, Utah - 1968 to 1981
Director, Planning and Development 1978-1981
Supervised planning and construction for major expansion of base lodge facilities. Developed Master Plan for development of ski runs, lift construction and other facilities. Prepared environmental studies of proposed developments for U.S. Forest Service's review and approval. Coordinated development and day-to-day operations with the Forest Service. Assisted with area operations and coordinated Ski School and Food Service vendor operations. Made recommendations to owners for new development based on physical feasibility and cost.
  • Elected as Vice President of Intermountain Ski Areas Association.
Assistant Manager, Operations/Ski Patrol Director 1968-1978
Assisted Area Manager with day-to-day operation of resort. Performed hill maintenance, ski run grooming and snow safety checks. Directed Ski Patrol of over 50 part-time and full-time personnel and supervised training and qualification of patrol members. Responsible for avalanche control and rescue operations, mountain safety work and planning.
  • Received National Ski Patrol Award as Outstanding Professional Patroller for the year 1975.
