I've attached a brief audio clip that I think readers might enjoy. This is from the City Council work session held on May 15, 2007. The Council was discussing the budget and possible support for a further study of the streetcar. The mayor basically told them this would be a waste of money. Then the discussion turned to the plan for a new UTA-funded gondola study.
The excerpt begins with Safsten asking about the money for this new gondola study. In response, Godfrey says "It's not our money."
After a muttered objection from Wicks, Garcia presses the mayor on this point and asks if it isn't the money Ken Lee lobbied for. The mayor basically says no, it's not.
Of course, we now know that UTA has played a shell game with the money and that the difference between this money and what Ken Lee lobbied for is pretty much a technicality. But the mayor never explains this to the Council--it fell on Schwebke to get to the bottom of it.
Anyhow, I thought readers might enjoy listening to this. Really shows how the mayor operates.
