Plunk down your quarter this morning, folks. Lots of interesting stuff in the paper.
First of all, that story about the shooting downtown that appeared yesterday AM in the SL Trib that folks here were suggesting the SE suppressed because it was inconvenient for the Mayor to have shootings downtown reported is in this morning's paper. It's in the "News Beat" column, along with a story about an armed robbery of a Smiths supermarket on Harrison. Link here.
And on the front page, a story about how the areas schools are installing more and more video cameras for security reasons, to the point that in some schools, there is surveillance camera coverage of nearly every place. School days in modern America. "Smile! You're on Candid Camera!" Sigh. Link here
Another front page story deals with the growing property tax revolt in these parts, and how the legislature is thinking about fixing the problem. Identifies the property tax as the "most hated" tax in Utah because it is not related to ability to pay. Chewy story. Link here.
And finally, also on the front page, a delightful story about attempts to reform municipal governments in Utah, including one suggestion by a legislator that we simply change the title of "Mayor" to "Chairman." [Ah, Utah....] Hey, come to think of it, why not? Worked for Chairman Mao. Link to the story is here.
