Mary, I hate to bother you, especially at this time, but as Chair of the Landmarks, I need your help. I am investigating claims of threats against the commission members that may have caused some on City Council to question the integrity of the Commission. In last night’s Council study session Councilmember Caitlin Gochnour said that the Landmark’s commissioners were “threatened last fall” when the Windsor hotel height variance first came up. She didn’t “even want to go into that” when asked, by whom? But she stated that this project was “shoved down their throats” and that “they finally through up their arms”. Later in the meeting Council Chair Amy Wicks said of the threats, “its not news”. Has anyone from the Administration of the City threatened you or any of your members on this, or any other project? Have their been others who have threatened you or any members of the Commission on this or any other project? Was their any discussion regarding commission members just giving in to outside pressures? If this has happened it is most egregious. If it has not happened, then one or some commissioner/s have misrepresented circumstances to Councilmembers which would also be flagrant and wrong. Thank you for your help. I appreciate your voluntary service to our community and am sorry the integrity of your Commission has been questioned. I hope to resolve issues surrounding this present trouble. John C.
