1) I'm against eminent domain, as it takes responsibility from the developer who should be the driving force in acquiring property, and hands the government too much power. Anyone who owns a home or a chunk of land hates the idea of a government official having the power to take it by merely arguing that it will serve the “greater good”. The land owner should be viewed as a customer and be treated with respect, and should be offered a proper amount for their property. I do understand however, that development needs to take place for a city to grow and prosper and there will be instances where private land will be needed for the public good, i.e. roads, railways, etc. Sometimes the land owner may not be willing to negotiate a deal, in these instances a governing body may need to step in. However, I do feel that all alternative options should be exhausted before the government gets involved and condemns property for development.
2) I think all candidates and residents alike agree that economic growth is the main issue facing Ogden; however, most disagree on what direction we should take for a strong city. Many candidates simply dislike, and oppose Mayor Godfrey and what he is trying to do in Ogden. I am not running because I oppose the current mayor, often these candidates have no solutions for the problems we face, but merely want to stop our mayor and his agenda. At the same time I understand we have a few on the current city council that act as a rubber stamp to the administration, or may not take the time to learn all sides of the issues. I seek this seat because I am filled with enthusiasm, energy and a deep desire to know all sides of each issue and to see Ogden’s rebirth. Despite our problems I am extremely optimistic about Ogden and its future.
I respectfully ask for your vote on Tuesday Oct 4th, and again on Nov, 8th.
Best Regards,
