3/17/07 Sue Wilkerson Letter

March 17, 2007

Dear Ogden City Council & President Millner,

As an Ogden resident, property owner and business owner, I want to encourage you to support Chris Peterson and the gondola project. As I am now working with investors DAILY that have Ogden's future in their sights, I listen as they tell me of the huge potential that Ogden has, much of it due to the efforts of Mayor Godfrey. These people have invested in communities prior to ours, seen the potential, watched as the communities flourished - and they all ask me the same questions: "Why does your city council and local university leadership oppose the biggest positive change that Ogden has seen since the railroad came to town?" "Why is there so much anti-mayor sentiment, when most of the success has stemmed from his efforts?" "Why does your university turn down the opportunity to be the best ski and golf college in the nation?" "Why is the university complaining about low enrollment when the solution lies at their fingertips?" And the questions go on. I cannot answer these - for me, it is a mystery why you, our city council and WSU leadership, cannot get behind this concept and quit spending your time trying to prevent it.

The big problem is ---- I don't ( and many of my associates and clients don't ) understand how you can continually throw up road blocks and promote negativity & conflict --- when the rest of the COUNTRY now sees what Ogden can become. (see Wall Street Journal article March 3, 2007, New York Times March 11, 2007, National Geographic Adventure) I have just made the decision to bow out of my Tuesday night Junior League presidential commitment for 2007-2009, just so I can be at City Council meetings and begin to show you that you are incorrectly LISTENING TO THE VOCAL MINORITY, not the supportive majority of amazing Ogden citizens.

If you all had been present at the recent Amer Sports support rally and dinner, you would have seen the true representatives of Ogden. A room packed with positive, upbeat, talented, driven, enthusiastic Ogdenites - business owners, pillars of the community, teachers, realtors, supporters from all walks of life --- ALL cheering on the progress thus far. If we could have bottled the energy in that room that night, you would have seen what could be the future of Ogden.

Be prepared to listen- the silent majority will stay silent no more. You all have a choice in your tenure - to be heroes or zeros. To be supportive of the biggest positive change since the 1800's is the path for heroes... to be closed-minded and opposed to positive change is the path for zeros. I will leave it to you to decide which direction you're headed. For the sake of the future of Ogden, I encourage you to get on board the G-Train...

Thank you for your time,

Sue Wilkerson
